Mark Olson, SGT, USA Ret. grew up in the North County neighborhoods of St. Louis, Missouri. He joined the U.S. Army Infantry in 2005. He has been awarded the Army Commendation and the Iraq Campaign Medal three times along with various other medals including the Combat Infantry Badge. After his second deployment in Iraq, Olson was medically retired at the rank of Sergeant in 2011. He studies Natural Resource Recreation Management here at Mizzou and is in his final semester. He enjoys backpacking, mountain biking, kayaking, bird watching and anything else that can get him out and into nature. Using the principles he learned as a designated marksman in the Infantry, Olson shoots video and pictures of wildlife and various other natural settings. He hopes to use his skills as a photographer, dedication as a veteran, and studies of natural resources to produce films/documentaries about natural resources and wild places. Olson has also started a veterans art/writing group here on campus, contact the Veterans Center for further details on meeting dates/locations.
